India denies claims of drone attack on ULFA camp in Myanmar |
At least three top leaders of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) have been killed in a drone attack by the Indian Army on their base in Myanmar. The separatist group claimed the attack was carried out by the Indian Army in the early hours of Sunday.
Some insurgent groups in northeast India have ethnic, linguistic and cultural links with minorities living across the border in Myanmar. Members of various Indian insurgent groups have bases in some areas near the Myanmar border.
The organisation has issued several statements regarding the attack by the Indian military on the ULFA's base in Myanmar. The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), which has been fighting for Assam's independence for decades, said one of its top commanders was killed and 19 others were injured in the first round of drone attacks by the Indian Army along the border with Myanmar.
The group said two of its senior commanders were also killed in the second strike. Several other civilians and members of the ULFA were also injured in the attack.
Indian authorities have denied responsibility for the attack. The ULFA said the base of another insurgent group, the People's Liberation Army (PLA), was also attacked along with the ULFA in the dense forests of Myanmar.
