3 killed, including 2 women, in US church shooting |
Two women have been shot dead at Richmond Road Baptist Church in Lexington, Kentucky. Two other men were injured. The gunman was also killed by police at the scene.
The first shooting occurred at 11: 35 a.m. local time Sunday near Blue Grass Airport. A member of the state police stopped a vehicle after receiving an alert on the vehicle's license plate reader system. That's when the suspect shot the policeman, fled, hijacked a car and drove to Richmond Road Baptist Church, about 15 miles away, Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Withers said.
Initial investigations suggest the gunman was acquainted with some people at the church, but Withers did not provide further details. He said the gunmen arrived at the church compound and opened fire on those present there.
Three police officers then shot and killed the suspect.
Police have not released the victim's name, but have not released the identity of the shooter.
