| BNP demands review of India's Waqf Amendment Bill |
BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has said that the Waqf Amendment Bill passed by the Indian Lok Sabha will undermine the rights of the country's minority Muslims.
He came up with the remarks at a press conference at BNP chairperson's Gulshan office on Sunday (April 6) afternoon.
Salahuddin Ahmed also said that as a democratic state, it is the state's responsibility to protect the rights of people of all religions. He said the law should be reconsidered to maintain regional communal harmony.
Referring to the ancient system of Islamic donation to the Waqf, he said the property cannot be sold or transferred in anyone's name. Therefore, the Waqf Board should be run by Muslims, the BNP leader said.
