Brazil sack coach Dorival

Brazil sack coach Dorival

The Brazilian Football Association (CBF) has sacked coach Dorival Junior following the 4-1 defeat to Argentina in the South American World Cup qualifiers. The Selecao are currently fourth in the CONMEBOL group. However, despite losing five of their 14 matches, the 2002 champions still have a chance to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

The 62-year-old has been in charge of the Brazilian team since January 2024. He has previously managed several clubs in Brazil. His first match was a friendly against England, which Brazil won 1-0. They have won 16 games, lost seven and drawn six.
The CBF said they had sent him off after a heavy defeat against Argentina. The company said in a statement that the board wishes him all the best for his future. The CBF will now work to find a new coach.

However, he never played for the Brazilian national team. But he led Flamengo to win the Copa Libertadores, South America's Champions League, in 2022, the biggest success of his career.
Al-Hilal coach Jorge Jesus is the front-runner to become Brazil's next coach. Earlier, they tried to bring in Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti, but that attempt failed. According to British newspaper The Athletic, Brazil still wants to talk with Ancelotti about taking over before the 2026 World Cup.
It remains to be seen who will be the next coach of the Selecao and how the team manages to qualify for the next World Cup. However, the possibility that Brazil can once again knock on the door of the Italian coach to restore their tradition cannot be ruled out.
