1,42,000 Palestinians displaced in 7 days |
The United Nations says 1,42,000 Palestinians have been displaced in the past week as Israel resumes its military offensive in Gaza. At the same time, stocks of food, clean water and medical equipment in the besieged valley have dwindled dangerously.
This was reported by Al Jazeera on Friday.
"" "With each wave of displacement, thousands of people are not only losing their shelter, but also their access to food, clean water and medical care," "said Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for the UN Secretary-General."
"" "Currently, Israel's forced eviction order has displaced people in 17 percent of Gaza," "Dujarric said."
"" "Unrelenting air strikes, daily evacuation orders and restrictions on humanitarian assistance have led to a catastrophe for more than two million people in Gaza," "he said."
According to UN humanitarian aid agencies, Gaza's stockpiles of medical equipment, cooking gas and fuel needed to make bread have been severely depleted.
"" "Adequate humanitarian aid is still not reaching Gaza, putting the lives of thousands of people at risk," "Dujarric said."
Various UN agencies and human rights groups have demanded an immediate ceasefire and the lifting of the blockade for humanitarian assistance.
According to Gaza's health ministry, 86 more Palestinians have been killed in Israeli air strikes in the past 24 hours. The death toll from Israeli attacks since October 2023 has risen to 50,609.
However, the Gaza government's media office said the actual death toll had exceeded 62,700, including thousands of missing people trapped under the rubble.
