Trump visits flood-affected areas in Texas |
U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday defended local and federal government relief efforts during a visit to areas affected by severe flash flooding in the Hill Country region of Texas. At least 120 people, many of them children, died in the floods that struck early on Independence Day a week ago.
This was reported by Reuters on Saturday, July 12.
"At a roundtable with local officials after touring Carr County, Trump praised Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, saying" "they've done a tremendous job.
But questions have been raised against local and state officials, including the Trump administration, as to whether the lack of adequate warning and preparation before the flash floods caused so many deaths. I think everybody did the best they could under the circumstances,"an angry Trump told a reporter, referring to the anger of flood victims at receiving a late warning." I don't know who you are, but such a question can only be asked by a 'very bad man'. '
There has also been criticism of whether the National Weather Service and the Federal Emergency Management Agency's capacity was reduced because of the administration's spending cuts. However, the Trump administration claimed that the budget cuts had no effect on the weather forecast.
