Russia has recognized the Taliban government

Russia has recognized the Taliban government.

Russia has become the first country in the world to recognise the Taliban government in Afghanistan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced this in a statement on Thursday (July 3).

Russia has become the first country in the world to recognise the Taliban government in Afghanistan. This is according to a report by news agency AFP.

The Kremlin has accepted the credentials of Afghanistan's new ambassador to Moscow. This is a diplomatic recognition of the Taliban government. In April, Russia's Supreme Court stripped the group of its terrorist designation. It is believed that Moscow wants to normalize relations with Kabul for strategic and economic reasons as well as to maintain regional influence.

No Western country has recognized the Taliban government since it came to power in Afghanistan in 2021. The Taliban government has been controversial in the international arena on a number of issues, including human rights violations, stopping women's education, and radical policies.
