Khamenei is being held in Tehran's notorious prison

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He has served as the country's second-highest leader since 1989. He is currently one of the most influential figures in the Middle East. Recently, Tel Aviv and Washington threatened to kill him in the Iran-Israel war.

But it was not easy for Khamenei to come to power and become the dominant leader in the Middle East. His early life was difficult. He was served an eight-month jail sentence. He described it as the most difficult time of his life.

The prison where he was imprisoned during the rule of Shah Reza Pahlavi before the Islamic Revolution of 1979 is now known as the Ebrat Museum.

The Ebrat Museum, once a notorious prison in Tehran, is known not only for its brutal history, but also for the fact that many prominent political and religious figures were imprisoned here.

Khamenei's time in prison

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in the 1960s and 1970s due to his active participation in the Islamic revolutionary movement against the Pahlavi regime

He was arrested several times. "During this time, Pahlavi's secret police force" "Savak" "subjected Khamenei to extensive torture." He was imprisoned six times at the Ebrat Museum by the then Joint Committee Against Sabotage.

In one of the museum's narrow corridors are portraits of Sabe prisoners, including a portrait of Ayatollah Khamenei in a brown frame. Below his name, written in Persian, is Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

The museum also has a small, dimly lit room, where Khamenei was held captive. In the room is a wax figure of Khamenei wearing a black turban, round glasses and a brown robe, symbolizing his suffering and determination.

Arrest and torture

In 1962, Khamenei joined the revolutionary movement led by Imam Khomeini in Qom against the Shah's pro-American and anti-Islamic policies. He played an important role in conveying Imam Khomeini's message to Ayatollah Milani and other clerics in Mashhad. In 1963, he was arrested for the first time in Birjand and spent a night in jail.

Between 1972 and 1975, Khamenei took classes on the Quran and Islamic ideology at three different mosques in Mashhad. His lectures, especially on Imam Ali's Nahj al-Balagha, attracted thousands of youths and students. This led to a raid on his home in Mashhad in 1975.
