Death toll in Texas floods rises to 43


The death toll from flash flooding in the south-central part of the US state of Texas has risen to 43. According to the BBC, hundreds of rescuers are still working on the scene. Among the dead were 15 children.

According to AP, 27 children from the summer camp are still missing after 36 hours. County Sheriff Larry L. Latha.

Dalton Rice, the city manager of Carrville in Carr County, told reporters that the flash flooding occurred before dawn. They had no prior warning. The waters of the Guadalupe River quickly rose above the danger mark.

Rice added that the entire incident took place in less than two hours. The flood was so fast that it could not be detected even by radar. Officials said rescue operations are underway.
