Pakistan Agrees to Discuss Compensation for Genocide and Return of Property

Pakistan has agreed to discuss the return of Bangladesh's wealth and a general amnesty for genocide. Foreign Secretary Md Jasim Uddin said the two countries have agreed to take the existing Dhaka-Islamabad relations forward.

He made the remarks to reporters after a meeting between the secretaries of the two countries on Thursday (April 17) afternoon.

The foreign secretary said the government has asked for the return of $4.2 billion as the assets of Bangladesh before independence from Pakistan. Islamabad has agreed to discuss the issue. There are still 3 lakh 25 thousand stranded Pakistanis in Bangladesh. Their repatriation to their home countries was also discussed.

At the meeting, the two sides agreed to further strengthen economic and trade ties, he added. Bangladesh will soon start direct flights with Pakistan. I am trying to maintain normal relations with the country keeping in mind the national interest. But there is nothing to worry about them.

Meanwhile, visiting Pakistan Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch said she was happy to be in Dhaka.

Bangladesh Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali and Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Syed Muazzem Ali were present at the meeting.
