13 individuals have been killed by Israeli airstrikes on Palestinian territory since midnight, according to a statement released by Gaza's civil defense department on Wednesday.

Mahmud Bassal, the agency's spokesperson, told AFP that Israel "carried out several air strikes... which resulted in the death of 13 people and the wounding of dozens, including women and children, in Khan Yunes and Gaza City."

Tuesday saw Israel begin its most severe attacks on the Gaza Strip since more than 15 months of fighting came to an end on January 19 when it and Palestinian terrorists Hamas agreed to a ceasefire.

Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, issued a warning late Tuesday that future talks with Hamas "will take place only under fire" and that the strikes were "only the beginning."
"Over the last 24 hours, Hamas has already sensed the might of our arm. In a video statement, he added, "And I want to promise you —- and them —- this is only the beginning."
