| Israel has agreed to a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza |
With Hamas, a Palestinian militant group, Israel has agreed to a ceasefire that will last for 60 days. Trump has stated that he will collaborate with all sides to bring an end to the fighting. This was made public by the US President on Wednesday morning (July 2). "Israel has agreed to the conditions necessary to finalize a 60-day ceasefire," Trump wrote on Twitter. We will work with all parties to permanently end the fighting.
He wrote, "Qatar and Egypt have worked hard to bring peace." I hope Hamas will accept this agreement for the benefit of the Middle East when they make their final offer. It's not better; rather, it's worse. Hamas has been negotiating a 60-day ceasefire with Israel in recent months. The Times of Israel reported that Trump's special envoy, Steve Wittkopf, had suggested the proposal.
But the proposal has been pending for a long time. because Israel wants to maintain its right to attack Gaza once more following this brief ceasefire. Hamas, on the other hand, has said it will not agree to a temporary ceasefire until it is guaranteed a permanent truce.
According to the Times of Israel, Trump may be attempting to placate both sides by promising to work toward a long-term ceasefire. Arab mediators are trying to resolve differences over a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas.
Earlier in the day, Trump said he wanted a ceasefire in Gaza. The White House has also said Trump does not want to see more killings in Gaza, and that is why it is prioritising the cessation of hostilities.
Trump will meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Monday. Israel is under American pressure to end the war.
