Iran's president makes big announcement about nuclear program

Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian has approved a new law suspending cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Tensions with the U.N. nuclear watchdog peaked last month after attacks on Iran's key nuclear facilities in a 12-day war with Israel and the United States.

Iranian state television reported Wednesday that Massoud Pezeshkian approved a law suspending cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency. Al-Jazeera reported.

A few days ago, Iran's parliament passed a resolution calling for a suspension of cooperation with the IAEA. According to the proposal, from now on, IAEA inspectors will need the approval of the country's National Security Council to enter Iran's nuclear facilities.

Earlier, Iran's foreign minister said that IAEA chief Rafael Grossi, who did not condemn the attacks by Israel and the United States, would no longer be able to enter Iran.

Grossi recently requested an inspection of Iran's nuclear facilities, but Iran refused. Iran's foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, said the visit was a "futile and cynical attempt."

"Meanwhile, the newspaper" "Kayhan" "claimed that Grossi was an Israeli spy and should be executed." The Iranian government said there were no threats to the IAEA chief or the agency's staff.

In the 12-day war, Israel's surprise attack caused extensive damage to Iran's nuclear and military installations and killed several top military officials and scientists. In response, Iran launched missile and drone attacks on Israel.
