Don't be passive on Gaza: Ayatollah Sistani warns Muslim world

Iraq's top Shiite cleric, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, has expressed deep concern over the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and urged Arab and Muslim countries to intervene immediately rather than being mute spectators.

Samaa TV reported this in a report on Saturday (July 26).

"In a strongly worded statement on Friday evening, he described the ongoing situation in Gaza as" "catastrophic.Lakhs of people have been killed and injured in close to two years of unrelenting killing and destruction." Towns and villages have been destroyed. Palestinians are living in a terrible situation today. '

"The famine in Gaza has reached its peak," Ayatollah Sistani said. No class or age of people is spared from the effects of hunger and deprivation. '

"He described the actions of the Israeli army as" "inhumane brutality,"adding that" "the atrocities committed by the Israeli occupation forces to overthrow the Palestinian people are nothing new.

He said the role of the international community, especially Arab and Muslim countries, in this crisis is very important. "It is their moral and religious responsibility that they will not allow this catastrophe to continue,"Ayatollah Sistani said." '

The United Nations and various aid agencies have repeatedly warned of famine and humanitarian catastrophes in Gaza. In this context, Ayatollah Sistani's direct and sternly worded call for intervention highlights the depth of the crisis.

Ayatollah Sistani is a revered religious leader across the world, cutting across sectarian lines. However, he rarely makes such direct statements on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, which indicates the complexity and deep crisis of the current situation.
