Iran launches fourth-generation Khyber missile for the first time |
Iran has used a fourth-generation Khyber-Sheikan missile against Israel. This was reported by various international news media. The hypersonic ballistic missile is capable of hitting a target with pinpoint accuracy. Khyber can also evade Israel's powerful air defense systems such as Iron Dome and David's Sling.
For the first time, the fourth-generation Khyber-Shekan ballistic missile is aimed at Israeli territory. The name of the missile launched by the IRGC is Khorramshahr-Four.
The missile, named after the historical Khyber Desert region of Medina, was unveiled in 2022. The medium-range ballistic missile is capable of reaching a distance of at least 2,000 km. It can carry about 1,500 kg of explosives. Khyber Shekan is one of Iran's heaviest warheads.
Tehran claims the Khyber missile is capable of striking any strategic target with precision. It can skillfully evade Israel's powerful air defense systems such as the Iron Dome and David's Sling.
The missile can be controlled in flight. According to Iranian media, the hypersonic ballistic missile, Khyber, is estimated to be 15 times faster than the speed of sound.
Iran has been under Western technology and economic sanctions for nearly four decades. A lot of research is being done on how the country developed state-of-the-art technology like hypersonic missiles during this period.
