Russian drone strikes in Ukraine after Trump-Putin phone call

Russian drone strikes in Ukraine after Trump-Putin phone call

Russia has carried out a record number of drone strikes in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, just hours after the latest phone call between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. On Friday morning, the smell of smoke and explosives spread throughout Kiev. CNN reported.

Ukrainian officials described it as one of the deadliest attacks in the three-year conflict. According to local emergency services, one person was killed and 23 others were injured in the overnight attack.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, 476 out of 539 Russian drones were shot down. Russia also fired 11 cruise and ballistic missiles. Officials said 60 Russian drones were destroyed by Ukraine's new drone defense system.

Thousands of people spent the night in shelters, metro stations and parking garages. Drone roars and explosions were heard over the city throughout the night.

"Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiha said Kiev had" "spent a terrible and sleepless night." "" Such incidents have happened very rarely. President Volodymyr Zelensky described it as a major attack.

"" "Yesterday, when the first air raid sirens sounded in our cities and regions, the media started reporting on the Trump-Putin phone call," "Zelensky said." Once again, Russia shows no desire to stop the war and terrorism. '

Kiev said Ukraine's air defenses and drones were actively repelling the Russian attack from the start. But the drone continued to roar and strike for hours.

Ukraine's emergency services said the attack set fire to several areas of the city, damaged many buildings and partially destroyed multi-storey buildings. Kiev's railway lines were also damaged, and five ambulances were hit.

Poland's Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said the Polish consulate building was also hit. He called on the United States to resume the delivery of air defense munitions to Ukraine and impose tough sanctions on Russia.

Over the past few weeks, Russia has launched drone and missile attacks on Ukraine almost every night. The previous record was just five days ago. At that time, Russia had launched 537 drones and missiles.

Trump and Putin spoke for about an hour on Thursday. At the end of the call, Trump said there had been no progress on a ceasefire.

"" "We talked about a lot of things, including Iran, the war in Ukraine," "Trump said." I'm not satisfied with this. '

"Asked if he had made any progress on the Ukraine issue with Putin, Trump said firmly:" "No." "" There has been no progress in today's talks. '

"Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday that Russia" "closely follows" "all of Trump's statements." Putin reiterated that Russia wants to achieve its goals, but it is better to do so through political and diplomatic means.

Meanwhile, overnight Russian attacks in Ukraine have become the norm.

"According to the Ministry of Environment of Ukraine, the level of air pollution in Kiev was" "high" "on Friday morning." People should stay at home, keep windows closed and, if possible, stay in the air
