Qatar agrees to ceasefire with Iran at Trump's request |
Qatar's prime minister has brokered a US-brokered ceasefire in the Israeli-Iranian conflict. An unnamed US official was quoted by Reuters as saying.
The agreement was reached in a phone call between Iranian officials and Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdurrahman Al Thani.
According to the report, US President Donald Trump contacted the emir of Qatar and informed him that Israel had agreed to a ceasefire. He then sought Doha's help in persuading Tehran.
The diplomatic initiative began within hours of an Iranian missile strike on the US Al-Udeid airbase in Qatar, and the ceasefire came into effect.
