BNP never talked about reforms after polls: Mirza Fakhrul |
"BNP wants elections first, not reforms," he said. This is creating confusion among the people. However, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir denied it.
He said this while exchanging Eid greetings with the leaders and activists in Thakurgaon on Wednesday (April 2) afternoon.
He said necessary reforms must be made to hold free, fair and credible elections. For example, the Election Commission, law enforcement and the judiciary. But BNP will not accept it if reforms are carried out outside the people.
"There is no threat to the country," he added. All political parties will express their views. The parties will go to the people with their policies. Then people will choose what is right for them. That's democracy. That's why elections are needed.
Mentioning that there is no difference between reforms and elections, the BNP secretary general said our 31 points are in line with the reform proposal of the current government. However, BNP has clearly expressed its opinion on the constitutional reform.
Mirza Fakhrul said there is no possibility of autocracy if the democratic system is maintained. Right-wingers are rising all over the world. They say democracy is in danger. If the parties become autocratic, the situation will be like that of the Awami League. He also said that the caretaker government system is the best for elections in the country at this time.
He said some BNP men are doing undesirable things and action has been taken against them. The committee has been dissolved. At the moment, it's much lower.
