The Election Commission has extended the deadline for registration of political parties till June 22. The decision was taken at a meeting of the commission on Sunday (April 20).
The decision was taken on the request of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). They requested a 90-day extension of the deadline for party registration.
Today (Sunday) was the last day of the deadline announced by the Election Commission for registering political parties. A delegation of the NCP held a meeting with Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin on the occasion. NCP's chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari was also present at the meeting. The meeting discussed various issues related to the formation of the Election Commission, registration of political parties, the deadline for registration and the upcoming national election.
Earlier, in a written application to the senior secretary of the EC on Thursday (April 17), the new party of the youth who led the July mass uprising sought an extension of 90 days in party registration.
